Lecompton cabin joins history group plans park
Lecompton Historical Society bought a stone cabin and land for 7133 dollars from former councilman Pat Istas who cleaned the site. The group aims to rebuild the roof and create a riverview public park with the cabin as a historic centerpiece while seeking state grants. The site may have served as early headquarters for the Kansas Democratic Party and possibly housed William and Thomas Simmons during the 1850s ferry era.
