Painter of the House Still at It at 85 Years

Allyn Cox, 85, continues painting murals in the House of Representatives. The longtime Capitol Hill artist works about five hours thrice weekly, using an electric chair after a 1979 heart attack. His work follows a family legacy of congressional art and marks a multi-phase project begun in 1971 with funding from the Capitol Historical Society and later the Daughters of the American Revolution. Cox compares his pace to Michelangelo and notes no deadline for completion.
