Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and party land at Union Depot with Mrs. Grant and others. Large attendance despite heavy rain as speeches, parades, and a grand banquet unfold. Grant thanks Kansas citizens and notes support for all parties while in Merriam Park and Kansas City.
The Secretary of the Treasury has returned to the treasury 1,000,000 of the unexpended balance of the appropriation for funding the national debt and 2,000,000 of the unexpended balance for last year's custodian revenue collection, noting these are savings from sums authorized by law.

Medina New York July 2 report of the organization committee recommends Governor Jewell of Connecticut as chairman and W Dorsey of Arkansas as secretary. Executive committees chosen with members from multiple states and a Western division based in Chicago. A meeting is set for October 14 to act on resolutions, with preparations for electors discussed and a sub committee formed for campaign matters.
Reports say army worms swarmed along the WaIlkill Valley railroad line in New York causing severe damage to grain vineyards and fruit crops. Farmers deploy double furrows straw burns and poisoning with arsenic and Paris green as efforts to curb the pest. Similar outbreaks reported in Pike county Pennsylvania threatening corn and cereal crops.
