Douglas County prosecutors filed an aggravated battery charge against 22 year old Joshua W. Downing of Atchison for punching a 21 year old Lawrence man near Lawrence High School on 19th Street around 2 40 a m. Downing was arrested after officers found the silver car used in the incident. The victim was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Downing faces a Tuesday court appearance.
Former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn walked from court to a relaxed bail regime after prosecutors cited credibility questions about the hotel maid who accused him. The charges still stand, per district attorney notes, while the accuser's statements and inconsistencies are under renewed scrutiny.
