Amin lifts travel ban for Britons in Uganda

President Idi Amin announced the removal of travel restrictions on about 300 Britons in Uganda allowing them to leave at any time. He skipped the OAU summit in Libreville and will be represented by Uganda’s ambassador to Ethiopia.

Leaders from 49 nations gathered in Libreville to discuss unity while divided over Rhodesia South Africa and Sahara disputes. Nkomo and Muzorewa clashed over support for Rhodesian groups as Algeria and Morocco dispute Western Sahara.

State receipts exceed estimates by 16 million in FY 1977

Kansas general fund receipts for the just-ended fiscal year topped consensus estimates by about 16 million. Total taxes rose 83.5 million from the prior year, including 3.3 million from motor carrier property tax routed to the general fund after the school equalization fund was abolished.

Car fire at 19th and Massachusetts reports no damage

Fire units were called at about 9 15 a m Friday to a car fire caused by radiator overheating. The vehicle registered to a Kansas City firm. Earlier a homeowner at 207 N Fifth called about a basement odor, later ruled a skunk scent with no smoke observed.

Area corn crop could be exceptional in Douglas County

Douglas County may see a bumper corn crop this year as heavy rains boost growth while wheat harvests were delayed and soybeans damaged. U.S. Agriculture Stabilization official Eben Farley notes adaptable rainfall could push yields higher, with silage harvest in mid August and grain harvest around September. Farmers like John Pendleton echo optimism, saying corn thrives on rain and irrigation may be unnecessary unless a dry spell arrives.

Eudora opens new municipal pool for July 4 celebration

Eudora residents will celebrate the holiday at the town's new pool opening for the first time. Manager Joe Hanna said construction progressed faster than expected and the facility is filled and filtered with locker baskets in the bathhouse as the only missing item. The pool operates 1 to 8 30 p.m. and lies south of Nottingham School.
