Vintage T shirt entrepreneur grows into local brand
Chase McAnulty started with thrifted vintage tees in Kansas City and Lawrence while at the Kansas City Art Institute. He launched vintagethreadz online, then co founded Charlie Hustle in 2012 with Josh Riesgo. The brand sells retro shirts in shops like Method and Hobbs Inc, aims for $24k in 2013 with big growth planned for 2014, and just earned Negro Leagues licensing for a new line. A Kickstarter campaign seeks $20k to expand, while remaining rooted in Kansas, with charity and storytelling at the core.

Good and bad in Lawrence retail sales trends
Lawrence retail sales through mid May total about 677 million, up from 666 million a year earlier, with sales tax up 1.7 percent but late April to mid May down 2 percent, signaling a potential trend if declines continue. Lawrence ranks ninth among 478 metro areas for cognitive performance in Lumosity study, with strong scores in attention and problem solving but weaker in memory, and housing development signs reemerge at 31st and Kasold with a planned 126 duplex units and a church site.
