Kansas plan to raise funds for information bureau
Advisory committee in Kansas advanced plans to raise the remaining 1 971 needed to operate the state information and publicity bureau for 1916 17. A July 14 meeting in Lawrence will fix campaign details and finalize subscriptions to reach the 5 000 goal required for legislative matching funds. Prof Merle Thorpe, director, reports subscriptions fall short and Leon Flint will head the bureau during Thorpe’s absence. The bureau, created in 1915, aims to disseminate information on Kansas resources and industries, with executive power in a five member advisory committee of Kansas newspapermen. Last year newspapers contributed about 2 600. today 2 029 has been raised for 1916 17, leaving 1 071 still needed. The bureau becomes permanent once the 5 000 subscription is secured, unlocking the state appropriation. Friday and Saturday are Waldorf fruit salad days at the Busy Bee.
