Probation for man over animal cruelty case in Overbrook

Perry man Michael K. Allen, 36, was ordered to two years supervised probation and to repay the Lawrence Humane Society 4592 in restitution for abandoning ten dogs and puppies at a property in Overbrook. The humane society now owns the dogs and all are up for adoption.

Break-in at Wakarusa Valley School alarms parents

Douglas County deputies investigated a break in at Wakarusa Valley School after a window was pried and items stolen. No suspects found as officers using Baloo the police dog searched empty rooms. alarms failed to activate overnight. Students were kept in the gym for about 15 minutes while parents watched with anxiety.
