Kansas Geological Survey offices in Lindley Hall Wichita and Garden City lead ground water studies and mineral resource work with Frank Foley as director and William Hambleton as associate director. Between 1962 and 1963 the office issued 26 reports 43 000 copies mailed 16 500 letters received and answered, surveyed 25 dam sites, identified 200 rock samples and performed 700 chemical analyses for Kansas institutions. The survey developed popped volcanic ash for filtration pool material chinchilla powder and acoustical tile and aided local industries and ceramic firms. It maintains 120 000 driller logs and used 29 percent of a 1620 computer’s time last year.
