Farm builder creates modern stone home and outbuildings
Othal O Wiley, lifelong Leavenworth county resident, fulfilled the dream of a self built farmstead on 300 rolling acres six miles northeast of Lawrence near the Douglas Leavenworth line. He and son Emil Quarry and built a stone house 36 by 70 feet with seven rooms, plus a milk barn, hay barn, garage, machine sheds, and workshop. The entire farmstead is electrified with a pressure water system. Wiley and family milking 10-20 cows, feeding 50-100 hogs, 40 sheep, and running 500 rented acres, maintained a balanced rotation of corn, wheat, oats, soybeans, and alfalfa to sustain a successful farm operation.
