Former KU Student Linked to Arizona Wild Man Escape
AP report links a former KU student, Annita La Telle, to the Arizona wild man of the mountains who escaped the Arizona State Hospital. The 52 year old man, Jean Vu. Darnell, may be headed toward Bloody Basin country north of Phoenix. A gasoline spill from two Parker Buick Co. tanks ignited in a gutter on E Seventh Street near Rhode Island, setting seven parked cars on fire. A Lawrence firefighter lit a lighter while overseeing wash efforts, spreading flames east along Seventh and south onto Rhode Island. Two cars near Rhode Island were total losses, including a 1951 Plymouth with about 500 miles.

One Dead One Hurt In Air Barge Explosion Near Lake Charles
An air barge exploded at Cities Service docks twelve miles southwest of Lake Charles Louisiana in the early hours, killing one man and leaving another missing. Public relations official George Keller said no Cities Service personnel were harmed. The blast began at 2 04 a m with several follow on explosions. Four nearby barges and a Standard Oil tanker were moved to safety.

Jayhawk Construction Co of Topeka says it is nearly ready to start a Sun set Hill Addition project on the western edge of Lawrence. The plan includes 27 three bedroom and 81 two bedroom homes with asbestos siding and garages optional. Prices run about 8750 for two bedroom and 9750 for three bedroom, with down payments around 1500 and 2000 respectively and monthly payments near 56 to 62.
