Russia talk outlines Soviet system and family changes
Dr Anna Louise Styrene returned from Russia and spoke at the University of Kansas. She described Russia as similar to America in outward conditions but noted the Communist party dominates politics with about 700000 members and that public property was nationalized and leased to private firms. The Soviet system centers on trade groups rather than residents, with unions handling governance. She cited shifts since the revolution, including looser family rules and increased freedoms for youth and women, and said Russia was near ninety percent prewar production. She also spoke at faculty clubs before returning to Kansas City.
