Lawrence voters approved keeping the district local option budget at 33 percent with 84 percent yes and 16 percent no in a county mail ballot. Nearly 17,300 ballots were cast in Douglas County, about a 33 percent turnout.
City engineers say the new multilane Wakarusa roundabout, opened Jan 2, reduces conflict points and speeds, lowering injury crash risk. The first of its kind and largest roundabout in Lawrence replaces a four way stop, with researchers noting entry and exit points as the main collision points compared with signalized intersections.
With Tuesday's filing deadline passed, Lawrence voters face a full slate of candidates for the City Commission and school board races. Page 3A.
Lawrence city commissioners hear Wicked Broadband co owner Joshua Montgomery pull the 300000 loan guarantee request for a gigabit pilot. He proposes continued 20000 annual franchise fee waivers and greater control over fiber splicing while narrowing the service area to parts east of Ninth and Iowa and Clinton Parkway Wakarusa Drive near Montgomery’s home.
