In Washington January 28 Senator Turpie of Indiana presented a petition on Turkish massacres and urged official notification to Turkey and the Mohammedan church. He pressed for a decisive response following a concurrent resolution and called for strong action after a prior message.

Exchange Upheld in Greer Mills Case Over Rebates

Kansas City, Mo Jan 34 Judge Alden upheld the Greer Mills Live Stock Co case against the Kansas City Live Stock Exchange ruling the exchange must allow the firm to remain. The suit sought to stop expulsion for alleged rebates on stock consignments and to recover damages.

Nebraska Militiamen Exemption Statute Declared Unconstitutional

Train mob shoots passenger in West Virginia incident

A drunken passenger on a Keystone to Huntington train attacked crew with two revolvers after being challenged by Conductor McCullough. He was restrained, but shots killed W. A. Strother and wounded McCullough and Pater Rice. A mob, aided by Welch authorities, dragged the attacker to a tree and shot him, sending a note claiming vengeance as a warning to Negroes.

Lester, a North Carolina native born in 1708, died in MeThanong Georgia aged about 129. His long life included a Piedmont exposition moment with President Cleveland and a 19th century public betrothal ceremony.
