U S stock exchanges reached a unanimous plan to halt trading for the day if the Dow Jones drops 20 percent, with further rules triggering suspensions based on 10 percent moves and time of day. The reform, debated in a conference call, aims to prevent a market meltdown and awaits NYSE board vote and SEC approval.
Brazil admitted 1995 deforestation of the Amazon reached a record, nearly doubling from 1994 to 1995 before easing in 1996 yet remaining above 1994 levels.
