Kansas Worker Comp Reform Aims to Lower Costs
State law requires most non farm businesses to buy workers compensation insurance or cover benefits. Insurance costs rose 1991 92 prompting 1993 reforms. Costs decreased 8.5 percent but premiums remain high. Sebelius expects NCCI rates filed by February and decision by June 1 with optimism for lower rates this year. A constitutional flaw in the 1993 reform was fixed to stabilize the system and aid the NCCIs rate finalization.
