KU police defend delaying rape log entry citing federal law
University of Kansas officials say federal law requires withholding or delaying public release of certain police records. The December rape at McCarthy Hall, linked to the men’s basketball dorm, was added to the crime log over a week after reporting. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains active.

Bill Would Recognize Dental Therapists in Kansas
Kansas advocates push a measure to license dental therapists who would work under dentists in safety net clinics to expand rural access to care. The Kansas Dental Association opposes expanding non dentist practice, urging higher Medicaid reimbursements instead. The bill would require training and exams, limit procedures, and allow supervision requirements in designated clinics. Rep John Wilson supports the effort as a team approach to address oral health needs in the state.

Lawrence and Douglas County buildings were evacuated after a suspicious package on the 1100 block of Massachusetts Street. A bomb squad from Olathe and a Shawnee K9 unit examined a box of magazines, prompting the all clear. Agencies say they do not plan to form their own bomb squads and rely on mutual aid as incidents are infrequent.
