Defendent 19 Denies He Committed Murder In Trial

A Blue Springs man, Christopher Mitchell, 19, took the witness stand in his first degree murder trial denying the charge. He claimed he was wrongly accused and described his alibi for Oct 1 with Cynthia Scaturro, 17, Blue Springs, who testified she later recanted. He fought back against testimony that connected him to the killing of 18 year old Timothy Ridpath in Independence, Missouri, last October on a Douglas County road. Mitchell said Scaturro may have been influenced by police and offered his own timeline: 7 30 p.m. pickup, fast food, movie, lake visit, and return home by 10 30 p.m. He denied knowing Ridpath or visiting Lawrence before the incident.
