Cleveland January 26 Mars Cassie L Chadwick was formally adjudged bankrupt in the United States district court by default. Creditors will meet and elect a trustee to take charge of her property until it shall be sold.
London January 26 report of the royal commission on coal supplies states proved coal fields hold about 100 billion tons. At current output the reserves will last around fifty years.
A steel range explosion in a Wichita Kansas stee range injures Mrs Claude M Nef. Water pipes burst and flying steel fragments damage the stove area as the accident occurred on January 2.

Waggener of Atchison pushed a measure to claim state ownership of coal under the Missouri river at Atchison for the Atchison Coal Mining Co.

In St Louis a jury found Zack Mulhall guilty of assault with intent to kill Ernest Morgan after a quarrel during a show at the world's fair pike. Morgan, watching a fight between Mulhall and Frank Reed, was shot and testified the shooting was intentional. Mulhall claimed the shot was accidental and Morgan testified otherwise. The punishment fixed is three years in prison.
