Elie Hobeika killed in car bomb attack in Lebanon
Former Lebanese warlord Elie Hobeika, 45, allied with Syria, was killed Thursday in a car bombing along with three bodyguards. The attack was claimed by Lebanese for a Free and Independent Lebanon as protest against Syrian meddling. Hobeika led the Lebanese Forces militia known for 1982 West Beirut refugee camp massacres amid Israeli ties. An Israeli report linked then-defense minister Ariel Sharon to the killings.
