Griesa Returns from Chicago Illinois Nursery Meet
T E Griesa returned from Chicago where he attended the Illinois state convention of nursery men. He called on Secretary Jardine to invite the cabinet officer to address the convention but Jardine could not attend due to conflicting dates. Griesa contrasted Jardine’s Urbana speech with Illinois ex Governor Lowden’s attacks. He discussed agricultural prospects noting land values have risen beyond sustainable returns in corn regions and questioned whether the government should enforce an artificial value to aid farmers or revert land to profitable levels. Griesa recalled that twenty five years ago he and his brother believed land above fifty dollars an acre could not be used profitably for corn, but now two hundred dollars per acre seems the outer value for a farmer to break even.
