City has no 2013 plan to fix 19th Street washboard
Megan Gilliland says the city does not plan 2013 work on the 19th Street section between Haskell and Harper. A water main replacement in the area is proposed in 2013, pending budget and rate plan approval. Departments coordinate street and utility work and will re‑evaluate the street after utilities. Soil pH Guide for Healthier Plants and Soil Testing
Soil pH affects nutrient uptake and microbial life, shaping plant health. Most plants prefer a slightly acidic 6 to 7 range, with azaleas and blueberries needing more acidic soil. High alkalinity can cause iron chlorosis, seen as yellowing in trees like pin oaks. Determine target pH by plant, then test soil to decide whether to amend or replace plants.
Soil pH tips for Douglas County gardens and plants
Jennifer Smith explains how soil pH affects plant health and offers testing options. Douglas County residents can test up to 10 samples annually for free through K State Extension with a grant from the Conservation District. Laboratory testing provides detailed guidance, while home kits give a quick general pH read.
