Milwaukee January 23 The inquest into the Newall House fire began with Bleeker Tom Thoumbe Company manager who escaped and gave a deposition. Landlord Antisdel testified he could not explain the fire but suspected an incendiary and gas were involved after a strong odor and heat. His examination continued through the day.

A wall partition gave way early, water flooded the main shaft, twelve men reached the cage and were hoisted out while 22 others perished.
