City approves purchase of three garbage units for Lawrence

More Marines to Start Home From China Deployments
Enlisted men and several hundred marine officers are to begin homeward moves within two weeks as discharge points drop around February 1. Maj. Gen. Keller E. Rockey, commander of the Third Amphibious Force, reported 16,300 personnel have returned to the United States from North China, with 13,500 as replacements and about 6,000 more officers due late February. Marine strength in China has fallen from 62,000 to about 45,000 since October landings, including a reduction of Maj. Gen. Louis E. Wood's first marine air wing to 50 percent of wartime strength.
