Interfaith leaders condemn religious prejudice at meeting
Christian and Jewish officials in London on January 23 issued a joint statement from the Central Conference American Rabbis and Federal Council of Churches denouncing religious antipathy. They pledged mutual goodwill and practical cooperation while denying any proselytizing aim, urging unity to counter prejudice and protect fellowship. The move followed discussions among representatives of Christian and Jewish groups about safeguarding religious harmony and public trust. A separate notice announced London's Capitol cinema plans to seat 2,000 and feature ballrooms and a restaurant in the new theatre at St. James Street.

Etchings Sold After 70 Years in Bank Chests
A London auction revealed a REMBRANDT etching hoard stored in two wooden chests for seven decades. The sale netted 170 dollars, with a top price of 18,000 dollars for Arnoldus Tholinx. Other works titled Christ healing the sick, Christ before Pilate, and The Three Crosses fetched about 5,000 dollars each as Dutch buyers bid fiercely. The collection, amassed early in the last century by Edward Rudge of Abbey Manor, Evesham, cost roughly 2,000 dollars originally.
