Parents Discuss Band Trip Plans at Lawrence Memorial High
Nearly 100 parents of Lawrence Memorial high school band members met at the school to discuss a proposed five day trip to Cleveland in May for the National High School Band contest. The Kansas representative was chosen after the band won first place at Emporia last spring. The group estimates about $4,000 is needed, with the band having raised $1,000 so far. Principal Neal M. Wherry is soliciting transportation and housing estimates from rail and bus companies and from the YMCA and YWCA in Cleveland. A committee of Owen Carl, L. C. Allen, and Raymond Laessie will assist the band board in securing funds. The band board includes Wherry, Sawhill, C. E. Birch, and H. L. Sutherland. Tentative contest dates are May 7 to 9.
