Lecompton Constitution Returns To Kansas Display
The Lecompton Constitution, drafted to keep Kansas as a slave state, faced a long political fight in Congress with Buchanan and Douglas and was rejected. Now kept at the Kansas State Historical Society since 1957, the document will be shown at Constitution Hall on Feb 10 and 11 as part of the Bleeding Kansas program. The display follows a schedule of talks by Brian Jordan, John Salbach, and others detailing pre Civil War Kansas and figures like Stephen Douglas and Jim Lane.
