Planner to Talk On City Unit Idea

Kansas City architect planner Robert L. Bell will address the Lawrence and Douglas County Beautification Council on a planned unit development at the northeast corner of 15th Street and Kasold Drive. The project approved Dec. 21 by the Planning Commission envisions 95 single family homes 408 duplexes 372 garden apartments and 180 apartments in five high rise buildings. Ken Thompson will discuss planning large areas and problem areas in the Lawrence region. The council will elect officers after the talks.

Fire damages two story home at 1904 Vt Street

Firefighters responded to a 2:46 a.m. blaze at 1904 Vt Street owned by Herman Mast and leased to Donna Fenstemaker. No injuries were reported with about 2200 dollars in damage. The fire was likely started by a cigarette in a chair.

Crutcher Talk Is Wednesday In Douglas County Dinner

Kansas Lt. Gov. John Crutcher will speak at a Douglas County Republican Women’s Club buffet at the Eldridge Hotel. The event begins 6:30 p.m. with a program at 7:30 p.m. Reservations by Tuesday noon are requested, calling Mrs. Reynolds Shultz at VI 3-5516.

Adult Education Program Offers Variety of Classes

Lawrence High School offers 10 spring courses for adults 16 and up not in public schools. Classes include blue print reading with Robert Ratliff, chair caning by Larry Myers, creative painting by Rose Ignatow, judo for women with Dr. John B. Long, oil painting, drawing and photography led by Mar garetta Mitchell, dance by Mary Gordon, speed reading with Ted R. Editor Named for Kansas 4-H Journal

Jon Brake will become editor of the Kansas 4-H Journal, succeeding Donald L. Esslinger. Brake is a former Topeka and Marysville newspaper staffer and Centralia publisher, with the Kansas 4-H Foundation announcing the appointment. The journal is printed by The World Co. of Lawrence.
