Changes Proposed for Rural School Reorganization Act
Kenneth Sharp of the state Rural School association outlined amendments to the rural school reorganization act to about 250 farmers at a Douglas county branch meeting in the Community Building. The plan would scrap five man county committees, let the county superintendent reorganize by vote of patrons, ignore district valuations, and allow patron voting on consolidations. Sharp urged consolidating one to four pupil schools with others, with patrons deciding how to do it. Douglas county patrons supported the proposal and pledged efforts with the state association. About 20 Douglas district representatives attended. chairman Francis Blackwood noted over 40 districts belong to the association, with another meeting planned in February.
