Re Elted Hoffmeister Suicide in Legion Dispute
In St Louis on January 21 William A Hotzweizer ex supreme recorder of the Legion of Honor killed himself at Planters hotel with a revolver. George M Ackley of Kansas City was the sole witness. Otto F Overbeck, a leading critic of the administration, was arrested at the Holland building for carrying a concealed weapon but released. Hoffmeister’s defeat in the re election contest triggered the tragedy and Ackley claimed Hoffmeister shot himself. The coroner’s jury returned death by own action.
