Cold air lingers in the East as a snowstorm hits North Carolina and the southeast. Most of the Plains stay mild and pleasant while the West remains warm and dry with some low clouds and fog.
Kansas led the nation with 187 tornadoes in 2008, ahead of Texas and the previous state mark. Memorial Day brought a burst of warnings, with KSN-TV reporting 145 warnings over a 24 hour span, part of a record six-day period. Fatalities totaled four in Kansas, including a Colorado couple and a Chap man resident. Nationwide deaths reached 125 across 36 tornadoes.
Nathan Guy, a Hutchinson filmmaker, is making a nine minute trailer for a documentary on area polio survivors from the 1940s and 1950s. He aims to raise 30000 to finish the film and hopes to premiere at the Post-Polio Health International Conference in Warm Springs, Georgia, April 23 to 25.
