North Lawrence food desert spurs calls for greener access
A Lawrence survey shows North Lawrence residents face limited access to fresh affordable food. With four adjacent low income tracts lacking a mile to a full service grocery, over 3 000 are low income and 2 000 are children. Many rely on transit or carless shopping, while efforts to attract a grocery store stall. Families plan meals around trips to nearby markets, balancing cost and nutrition amid ongoing transport barriers.
