Ford Says Budget Cuts Could Avoid Tax Increase
House Republican Leader Gerald Ford argues Congress can trim the President's budget enough to prevent a tax hike though exact cuts depend on the budget. He opposes a 6 percent surcharge on corporate and most individual taxes, citing current economic indicators and the goal to balance the economy, not just the budget. Ford spoke ahead of the GOP response to Johnson's State of the Union. Dirksen previews foreign policy remarks and endorses Vietnam course with cautions.

Sam Mason, a 49 year old test pilot and grandfather, piloted a rigid rotor helicopter at the Palm Springs Aircraft Convention. The craft has no hinged blades, so tilting the blades tilts the cabin, allowing loops and upside down flight without engine damage risk. Mason demonstrated 15 minutes of aerobatics at 500 to 1500 feet.
