Rev Howard E Koelb pastor of the Lawrence First Baptist Church for more than seven years died at 10 10 this morning at the University of Kansas hospital in Kansas City after about two years of illness. Survived by his wife two daughters Mary Elizabeth and Helen and his mother. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. He remained devoted to his duties despite illness.

Domingo Promoted to Major in Army Air Corps
Faustino Domingo a Filipino from the Lawrence school system has been promoted to major in the Army Air Corps. He came to the United States under an army officer after the Philippine insurrection and worked for years in the adjutant general's office at Topeka. Car tag sales lag behind last year in county reports
County treasurer Roy Flory said tag sales are down this year with 2410 more new applications expected as tags went on sale 20 days later. Truck tag sales remain weak with 411 today versus 60 percent a year ago. Applicants with titles from other states face lengthy processing. After February 1 a 45 cent penalty applies to tag purchases.
