Voss Bros. Manufacturing Co History in Davenport
The Davenport firm founded by William Voss and his brothers Fred and John in 1877 produced washing machines starting with hand crank and pedal operation. By 1905 Voss offered motor driven machines and by the 1920s porcelain tubs were common. A 1920s patent covered corrugated tubes, and during economic downturns the firm sold units as low as $39.50 while Chamberlain also produced washing machine wringers.
