Lawmakers Skip Manhattan Trip To Hear University Plans
About 60 Kansas legislators did not attend a Thursday trip to Manhattan organized to hear state officials and U.S. Sen Pat Roberts present plans for university research centers at KU KSU and WSU The trip aimed to show need for 100 million dollars in bonds over five years starting 2004 and to secure federal grants for operations Some members criticized the trip as lobbying while others had prior commitments or preferred to stay in Topeka to work on other issues
