Douglas County clears path for new phase at Big Springs Quarry
Douglas County commissioners approved Mid-States Materials reclamation plan for a new mining area at the cross‑county Big Springs Quarry near Route 442. Shawnee County officials have already given similar approval. A separate boil water advisory was issued for Rural Water District No. 10 including Lakeshore Estates after a water main break reduced pressure and risked contamination.

Deborah Gomez a 43 year old Northlake resident received one year of probation after pleading no contest to three misdemeanor counts of child endangerment for a June 13 2012 incident in which two children were found bound by hands and feet in a Lawrence Walmart parking lot.
