Justin Wates and Matthew Pitts from Portland were rescued after spending a night in a snow cave on Mount Hood. They misjudged weather, failed to reach Timberline Lodge, reached about 5,000 feet shelter, and contacted searchers by cell phone Tuesday morning. They plan to carry radio locators on future climbs. Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest peak, has seen over 35 deaths in 25 years.
