Average per person costs likely exceeded 7000 dollars, based on data from jail bookings and hospital stays and including Lawrence Community Shelter expenditures.
The city of Lawrence announced a major Iowa Street reconstruction from 23rd Street to Irving Hill Road will begin before month’s end. Work includes new concrete pavement curb gutter a sidewalk on the east side and a west side shared use path plus upgraded waterlines storm sewers street lights. At least one lane will remain open with detours as crews rebuild a vital corridor. Aaron Parker senior project engineer said the project aims to improve safety and reliability.
