Roosevelt Seen Likely to Sign Senate Bonus Bill This Week

A Democratic source said it is a pretty good bet President Roosevelt will sign the senate baby bond bonus payment bill. The Senate Finance Committee backed the measure 15 to 2, with only Couzens and Gerry opposing, and the bill would raise about 11.3 to 11.5 billion overall. The bill provides non-transferable bonds paying 3 percent interest for nine years, with full payment starting June 15, 1945, and gives veterans an option to hold the bonds. The measure may reach the senate floor Thursday for a vote.
