Fire Chief Rebuts Topeka Disaster Risks in Lawrence
Lawrence Fire Chief William F. Reinisch warns the greatest danger in town lies at Haskell Institute. The four story girls dormitory with 350 occupants and only two fire escapes, plus inflammable interior, makes the building highly vulnerable. He notes Lawrence’s three story structures strain equipment and calls for a first class steamer at 2000 dollars and aerial tracks at least 5750 dollars. Subpoenas target University of Kansas students tied to a February district court case challenging a prohibition law violation.
