Study shows many students want bike walk to school
Lawrence public and private schools report about 15 percent of K-8 students already walk or bike to school. Health officials note strong interest to expand this, with over 60 percent of near half mile students asking to walk or bike. A 3:30 p.m. info session at West Middle School will present more findings and seek feedback. The district also notes enrollment fell short of projections for 2014-15 with only 41 of expected 220 new brick and mortar students enrolled.

Lawrence City Commission draws two mayoral hopefuls into race
Gary Williams owner of Flo's Laundry & Janitorial Services plus Rob Sands a Kansas National Guard major joined 10 and 11 candidates respectively in filing for at large City Commission seats in Lawrence. Williams criticizes recent spending on an 18 million library expansion and a 28 million police HQ while fearing rising regulations. Sands advocates focus on core services and wants more performance metrics before any new police facility, citing projects like the Ninth Street arts corridor and Rock Chalk Park.
