AFL Moves to Ban Pre Bowl Signings Across Leagues

The AFL plans to bar signing college players until after bowl games at its winter meetings in Houston. AFL assistant commissioner Milt Woodard said action could mirror NFL rules ordered by Pete Rozelle, who wants no pre bowl college signings until team schedules, including post season. Rozelle indicated the NFL would adopt a similar policy next month. The AFL may also delay the draft until after bowls per NCAA proposal. About 30 groups in 14 cities show interest in franchises as the meeting, and the All-Star game, shift from New Orleans after racial discrimination charges. The East and West All-Star squads trained.
