Stimson signals large under 30 draft in 1945 plan
War Secretary Stimson indicates the armed services expect to need about 1.7 million men under 30 from now to next January. Analysts say 915,000 physically fit under 30 deferred, with about 330,000 to be inducted by July 1, plus 585,000 remaining deferred. If substantially all the fit under 30 are taken, the year end total drafted or enlisted could reach around 730,000, leaving roughly 795,000 still deferred or unfit.
