Juvenile detention centers in Johnson and Douglas counties compared

Olathe hosts the 12 year old Johnson County Juvenile Hall while Douglas County plans a Lawrence center with about 14 beds. The two facilities share design consultants Abend Singleton Associates and similar campus layouts. Centers educate offenders ages 13 to 18 with school district instructors, homework required, and ongoing facility feedback between counties.

Haskell Four Year Offerings Begin for 1993

Haskell Indian Junior College plans a four year expansion with the first baccalaureate program in elementary education starting fall 1993. The Long Range Planning Committee and Vision 2000 guide the move toward four year degrees with teaching content and methods balanced. Dixon, chair of the education committee, notes nine semesters with two years of general study followed by education courses and a student teaching ninth semester.

Louisville coach returns to KU in eventful visit

Louisville head coach James Speed, former KU cheerleading coach from 1986 to 1990, visited Allen Fieldhouse for the KU Louisville game. He rejoined his old squad during halftime as Louisville defeated Kansas 85 to 78. Speed recalled coaching Kansas and led a Rock Chalk Chant, calling the visit awesome.
