Coast Guard halts search for Grand Zenith crew and missing seaman

The Coast Guard declared 38 Chinese crewmen from the oil tanker Grand Zenith and a Rhode Island seaman lost at sea as dead. The 644 foot Panamanian-flagged ship, last heard Dec 31, was 60 miles south of Yarmouth Nova Scotia en route to Somerset Massachusetts with 8 million gallons of fuel oil. Coast Guard spokesman Richard Griggs said there is no chance of survival after evaluating Dallas cutter reports.

Corps postpones opening of Lake Perry road bids

The U S Army Corps of Engineers postpones bid opening for nine miles of Lake Perry roads to Jan 27. Bids were to be opened today in Kansas City. Projects include a three mile stretch on U S 24 north of Perry and a six mile link from Jefferson State Park to K 92 west of the lake.
