Lawrence commission to tackle varied agenda tonight

The Lawrence City Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in city hall to discuss a mix of issues including a use permit for a nursery school on West Ninth, a 326 Ind disposal and debris abatement, six police lobby proposals, a sign variance for John Haddock Imports, and several planning, zoning, and fiscal matters. The agenda also lists interim items such as urban renewal bonds, ordinance updates, special assessments, and appointments to boards and commissions.

City probe report delayed awaiting interviews

The special committee investigating Lawrence city government will not release its report Tuesday as planned. It will interview two more city employees George Williams and Rebelio Samuel on Wednesday before presenting findings at next week’s city commission meeting.

Lawrence District 497 Public Forum on School Policies

A public forum will discuss issues facing Lawrence District 497 schools at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Broken Arrow School gymnasium. Sponsored by the Lawrence Area PTA Council, the meeting invites patrons to voice comments on policies. each speaker may address the group for six minutes. Advance arrangements were requested by 5 p.m. with Mary Louise Wright or Lorraine Michel.

HUD selects Lawrence housing authority for elderly project

The Lawrence Housing Authority was chosen by HUD to submit a final plan for an elderly housing complex at 2700 W. 27th in Lawrence. The initial 80-unit proposal won general approval but requires a final plan and financing approval. HUD funds exceed 244000 annually for subsidies. financing up to 2 million via revenue bonds is approved.
