Alec Nove, the Rose Morgan distinguished visiting professor at Kansas University, will join former Gov. Alfred M. Landon in Topeka for a public meeting of the Topeka International Club on The Common Market and the Cold War. Nove, a Western authority on Soviet economics, arrived at KU last September from London University where he taught Russian social and economic studies. Landon has been active in advocating passage of the Trade Agreement.
The meeting marks the first public appearance in Topeka since Congress passed the expansion act. The speaker, tied to the new trade legislation, will address local officials and the business community.
The third phase of the Sabin oral polio vaccine program begins Monday in Douglas County. Type II vaccine will be distributed 1 to 8 p m Monday through Friday at the Community Building in Lawrence, with county clinics 1 to 8 p m Tuesday at Eudora Municipal Building Fellowship Hall Baldwin Methodist Church Lecompton Grade School. Vaccine sites include city and county schools and Watkins Hospital on the Kansas University campus. The vaccine is free to anyone over six weeks old and has been approved by national state and local medical and public health authorities.
Tyson Travis a Lawrence High School senior has been named winner of the Bausch and Lamb Science Award. Travis son of Kenneth and Mrs Travis of 1735 Ky St plans to attend Kansas University and has been a National Merit semi finalist and Summerfield Scholarship nominee. He is senior counselor of the Lawrence Chapter of the Order of DeMolay and an A student in biology chemistry physics and advanced biology. Last year recipients were Charles and William Kerfoot.
