Shaw Executed in South Carolina First in 23 Years
Joseph Carl Shaw, a former altar boy and military policeman, was executed by electric chair at Central Correctional Institution after pleading guilty to the October 1977 killings of Tommy Taylor and Carlotta Hartness and admitting rape and a separate murder. He died at 5 16 a.m. amid a clemency review that yielded no reprieve.
