In Bratrorp Pennsylvania on January 10 George Holly, intoxicated, fired three shots into a crowded Richburg bowling alley. A bowling ball struck Lewis Wasson in the groin, likely fatal. Holly was arrested, described as a drunken freak with no provocation.

New York January 10 The Post reports trunk line railroads seek arbitration to settle disputes among New York Central Erie and Baltimore and Ohio with the Pennsylvania line proposing nonbinding advisory arbitration The effort includes major foreign and domestic investors and the aim is a three to five year term However caution remains as signatures to settlement terms have not yet been secured.
New York mourned ex minister Edwin M. Stoughton with a large funeral attended by the Judiciary bar and public figures. Pallbearers included Gen. Grant and John Jacob Astor. services were led by Protestant Episcopal clergy. Remains were transported to Windsor, Vermont for interment.
